Shropshire Police and Partners Praised

Shropshire Policing Board has praised West Mercia Police’s Shropshire Division for their performance ending 31st March 2010.

Shropshire Policing Board has praised West Mercia Police’s Shropshire Division for their performance ending 31st March 2010. Compared to last year total recorded crime in Shropshire has been reduced by 1,809 crimes, including 30 fewer serious violence against the person and serious sexual assault offences, 101 less serious injury assaults, 63 fewer household burglaries and 465 fewer burglaries from other buildings including sheds, lock ups and industrial premises. There has also been a 4% reduction in reports of anti-social behaviour.

“Chief Supt. Andy Rowsell and his whole team are to be congratulated in meeting the challenge we set, through the Joint Policing Plan, to make a difference to the people we serve. These results mean fewer victims of crime and a better quality of life for many Shropshire people.”
Miles explained that “These results were not achieved by the Police on their own. Local communities who raised their concerns and supported initiatives and partner agencies who have worked with the Police to tackle concerns are also to be congratulated on these results. For example the operation to tackle concerns of alcohol and anti social behaviour in Shrewsbury town on Friday and Saturday night, which will be rolled out to market towns across Shropshire. The initiative to deliver improved security and awareness to the homes of our elderly residents and other people vulnerable to distraction burglary and the South Shropshire Bike Safe Campaign to address local concerns about speeding motorcyclists.”
