How We Work

The Police Authority carries out much of its work through specialist Panels and Committees which each consider specific areas of activity. The Committees exercise delegated functions and also report to the Police Authority.
The full Police Authority and its Committees have decision making powers and meet in public. The exception being where the Authority has moved that the public and press be excluded from the meeting where the business involves the likely disclosure of excepted information as defined by the provisions of Section 12A of the Local Government Act 1972. Meetings are usually held at West Mercia Police HQ, Hindlip Hall, Worcester WR3 7BR. Agendas and papers are available on this website or from the Chief Executive's office five working days prior to the meeting.
The Authority's planning process sets out the timetable for how the work of the Panels feeds into the development of the key statutory documents: the policing plan, annual report, council tax leaflet, local policing summary and the consultation leaflet on priorities and budget considerations.
As part of its public engagement remit the Police Authority has established Policing Matters Groups, across each of the Force's Divisional Command Units, and members also actively participate with local agencies in partnership.
The Authority is a statutory partner of the local Community Safety Partnerships which work together to reduce crime, anti-social behaviour and misuse of illegal substances within a local authority area. The Authority is also represented on the four county/unitary local strategic (or equivalent) partnerships established to focus on local area agreements.
